This report is based on my experiences and opinions. I worked at the Waurika High school as custodian or janitor for several years. I overheard quite a few interesting conversations from teachers while they were in the break room. I also saw some interesting documents lying on the break room table. I signed forms to not release any information about the school, but somebody needs to speak up about some of the things going on in the public education system, not just in this school but in all public schools in the United States! I began working at this school in the early 2000s. The break room is where many of the teachers went to unwind after a class session or to have lunch. One of the teachers left a folder with several documents lying on the break room table and as a custodian it was my job to clean off the table. But something caught my eye in those documents. I began reading them and discovered that the documents were talking about federal funding that schools receive when they report a child with disabilities. Apparently it was called IDEA, or Individuals with Disabilities Education Act which was established in the year 1990. Supposedly it protected students with disabilities and guarantees they receive an appropriate education from local schools. This is accomplished through federal funding. In that document that a teacher had circled the amount $1,150.00 for each student with disabilities, and $5,000.00 for students who have disabilities that require expensive services. I didn't really know what all of that meant or how it worked until I overheard a conversation by one of the teachers. This was about two years after I read the documents in a folder lying on the break room table. One day as I was making my coffee for the morning two teachers walked in and sat down to have breakfast and they were talking about how to convince a child's parents that the child exhibits signs of ADHD. One of the teachers said "well he fidgets, and he doesn't pay attention, he doesn't follow orders, so he fits the criteria for a child with ADHD, but we need to convince his parents that he has ADHD." The other teacher said "Sounds good, but how much funding would the school receive?" The other teacher said "It's hard to say, hopefully it's enough for us to get a bonus at the end of the semester!" That's when I put it all together! That's why teachers were pushing the ADD and ADHD disorders, because schools receive extra funding that could lead to an increase in the teachers salary per year! After hearing that I left the break room because to be honest, it made me sick to hear that the teachers were more concerned about getting a bonus at the end of the year than really helping the student. Another thing I discovered is the medications that are prescribed by doctors for ADD or ADHD is Ritalin, Zooloft, and several other prescription drugs that are very similar to cocaine. Over time that type of medication eventually shrinks the brain in these students with this so called mental illness known as ADD, or ADHD. Also, most teachers have gag orders about this type of stuff, so they're not allowed to discuss how much federal funding a school school receives for each student with a disability. Most schools are also required to give the names of those students with ADHD to local law enforcement agencies because the Department of Justice and the FBI sent out a report in 1992 that said most children who are diagnosed with Attention deficit disorder or Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are more likely to end up in juvenile justice facilities by the age of 17. So once schools classify a student as having ADD or ADHD, the student is classified as most likely to become a criminal! Can you imagine the trauma that child will have to face as he or she goes through life! They will be looked at by police agencies as a criminal for the rest of their life! If that doesn't raise your eyebrows about what these schools are doing to students who fidget and have been doing since 1990, nothing will! Again, this isn't just happening in Waurika Public Schools but several schools in the United States! An investigation needs to happen at this school, because I believe many teachers, principals, and other members of the school board since 1990, may have abused the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act by tricking parents into thinking certain students had ADD or ADHD and then cashing in with federal and state funding. | ||
